By Alician, on May 18th, 2012 I finally finished the salt air quilt!!! It turned out better than I thought it would when I first started. I just love all the geometry in this quilt and the colors really pop. This quilt is also the first quilt I’m putting up for purchase in my etsy shop.
I hope to make many more to put in the shop. I’m almost finished working on the baby quilt I was laying out a few days ago and it should be finished today and photographed tomorrow.

I hope you’ve enjoyed following me along on this quilt journey. I can’t wait to start my next project. I just got in my charming solids club selection of Vintage Modern! I’ll have to think of something extra special for that collection.
As I said before the Salt Air Quilt is listed in my etsy shop Salt Air HST Quilt
By Alician, on May 15th, 2012 I finally finished the quilting last night on the Salt Air Quilt. I’m so pleased with it!! My walking foot sure got a work out. I was a little worried about over quilting it but after I finished I felt it was just right.

I’m anxiously awaiting the mail to arrive because my binding fabric will be delivered today and then i can get this quilt all finished up.
By Alician, on May 14th, 2012 Even with company this weekend I did manage to make progress on the Salt Air Quilt. When I started this quilt I hadn’t yet figured out what fabric I would use for binding. I really didn’t have anything on hand that would look good and the local shops around me don’t carry this line of fabric {at least not yet} so i took to the internet. I chose getting it quickly over the least expensive online shop. Luckily the Fat Quarter Shop is in my backyard and this is what I chose for binding.

Too bad they are an online only shop, I would probably camp out there if they were a brick and mortar. Here are a few pics of my progress on the quilt

While I’m waiting on the fabric I am contemplating adding some quilting lines so that each seam is outlined. What do you think? Quilt more or leave it alone?
Since I’m undecided I decided to fill my time by layout a new baby quilt with blocks I’ve had done for awhile. It’s very similar to the baby quilt I made for my sister.

Hopefully both of these will be finished and up for sell in my shop by weeks end!
By Alician, on May 11th, 2012 Yesterday I finished the Salt Air HST quilt top. It was still raining when I finished so I had to wait till this morning to take some pics. I love how it looks with the light coming through it. I originally was going to layout all the hst in the same direction but then sewed a row the wrong way. Instead of taking the seams out I just changed my layout. {Is that lazy or what} Ultimately I’m happy with the mistake and think the quilting will turn out really nice for this design.

I hope to get started on the quilting today and plan to sell this one in my etsy shop. I’ll post when it gets listed!
By Alician, on May 10th, 2012 I recently finished up a cute baby quilt for the newest member of the family. I had a ton of fun making this one and the fabric was just so pretty. It was difficult for me to send it away. I used Promenade from Riley Blake and I’m so glad I have some left over to use in another project.

I used a tutorial by Little Birdie Secret called Gather Love and you can find the tutorial here. I must say I’m already having separation anxiety from this quilt. But, I know that it will be loved and cherished!
By Alician, on May 5th, 2012 {No animals were harmed in the making of this blog post}
My sweet cat Sophie has been uncharacteristically awake and more characteristically
in the way!
Yesterday sweet Sophie decided the perfect place to look out the window was on my sewing table
{while I was attempting to sew}
even though she had an entire window ledge she could stretch out on.
She was quit content as her tail was swishing back and forth

Good thing I wasn’t stippling!
despite the tail swishing distraction I managed to make some progress with my Salt Air charms

I was also able to cut them into fours and get them all pressed.
I’m still contemplating the layout but with any luck I’ll have a quilt top done today.
Fingers crossed!
By Alician, on April 24th, 2012 I month ago I received my Charming Solids Club packet of Good Fortune fabrics. I knew I was going to use this collection for my nieces 5 year-old quilt but I wasn’t quit sure how I was going to use it. It took me forever to decide and I’m really loving the challenge of coming up with different ways to use charm packs. I finally decided on doing HST and I had plenty of white fabric on hand to do it. So I set to work needing to finish this quilt quickly so I could take it to the party.

I think she really liked it! I love how the colors are so vivid in this collection. I will definitely make another one of these quilts. It was fun, fast, and easy. It was also the first time that I quilted using a wavy pattern which was also super fast and easy.
I would love to hear your comments or see you HST quilt projects.
By Alician, on April 15th, 2012 Introducing my first quilt tutorial!!!
It’s called completely biased and I’m so thrilled it’s finally done. Well the quilt has been done for a while it was the tutorial that took the longest.
I really enjoyed making these blocks with the Aunt Edna fabrics. I’m so glad I snatched some of this fabric up when I did and at such a good price
The link for the tutorial is at the bottom of the post.

This is a super easy quilt to make and I do hope you like it. For the quilt tutorial just clink on the link below
Completley Biased Quilt Pattern
It will open up a PDF for easy printing!!
And please leave a comment on what you think about my quilt.
ENJOY!
By Alician, on March 5th, 2012 I don’t know if you have seen or heard about Aunt Edna by Denyse Schmidtbut it’s a stasher for sure. I’ve just started to see it around on the web and loved the colors. I doubt I ever would have noticed it in the local Joann’s because I never walk down the quilting fabric aisles, ever! I typically buy all of my quilting fabric on Etsy or at my local quilt shops. I only go to big box stores for basic supplies and always with a coupon in hand and besides the quality of their fabric just isn’t there… until I met Aunt Edna.

I’m glad the images of this fabric collection was compelling enough to make me go and check it out for myself. It’s been awhile since I’ve even been in a Joann’s but since it was coupon commotion week I decided to make the drive. I was delighted that the fabric quality was there and overjoyed that I had enough coupons to buy a bit of each print. I doubt I would have indulged myself without the coupons because these prints come at a price, $12.99 a yard {ouch!}
I also was able to pick up a few supplies too. A little Gutermann thread here and a little batting there and I’m ready to go. Couldn’t wait to get back home and start making something. I had a couple of different projects in mind and was changing my mind every few minutes. Then I just went totally out on my own and decided to come up with my own quilt design. Here is a peek at what I’m working on.

If it turns out alright I’ll post a tutorial. Hopefully it will be my first quilt tutorial that will be followed by many more!
until then,
~alician
